Ovarian Reserve Assessment Ultrasound provides a clear, imaging-based window into your baseline fertility potential. Rather than guessing based on age alone, we use high-resolution transvaginal ultrasound to examine each ovary and count antral follicles-small, resting follicles that reflect how many eggs are available for recruitment in upcoming cycles.

This assessment is valuable for women at many points in life: those just beginning an infertility evaluation, considering IVF, weighing egg freezing, or wanting to understand how long they might reasonably wait before trying to conceive. It is also helpful for women with irregular cycles, suspected diminished ovarian reserve, or a history of ovarian surgery or chemotherapy.

During the visit, we gently scan the pelvis, measure ovarian size, and document the number and distribution of antral follicles on each side. We also look at the uterus and lining, frequently identifying polyps, fibroids, or other findings that might influence fertility or menstrual symptoms.

Ovarian reserve ultrasound is usually paired with blood tests such as AMH and day-3 FSH/estradiol to provide a fuller picture. Dr. Stephen Mooney interprets all of this information in the context of your age, goals, and personal history, rather than relying on a single number. Together, we discuss what your ovarian reserve suggests about the likelihood of natural conception, response to ovulation medications, expected egg yield for IVF, and realistic timelines.
